Laser Dentistry (ie. without the Drill) Lasers make their way to dentistry!
"Our patients are healthier due to our innovative ways of diagnosing and managing their cavity issues and periodontal issues." ---------Dr. Bard Levey
People come here looking for a Laser Dentist, someone who understands Laser Dentistry, because experienced Laser Dentists are hard to find. Here, you will be taken care of by a Laser Dentist who is also a pain free Dentist. Pain Free Dentistry and Laser Dentistry go hand in hand. Pain Free Dentists and Laser Dentists utilize our dental laser technology to offer:
- less pain
- less trauma
- less need for local anesthesia (shots) or postoperative pain medication
- less inflammation
- quicker recovery
- less fear of drills
- the ability to perform more conservative dentistry in many situations
There are a number of ways we can use lasers to benefit you at our practice. They include:
Cavity Detection. As a Laser Dentist, we utilize laser technology for the earliest possible detection of cavities (using a device called Diagnodent). Why do many Laser Dentists prefer to use the Diagnodent? The diagnodent can find small cavities long before they will show up on dental xrays (and long before you get a toothache, requiring a Pain Free Dentist). The benefit of early detection of cavities are many, including simplified procedures for fillings which usually do not require any anesthetic nor the use of a drill.
Cavity removal. Dental lasers have the ability to remove decay within a tooth and prepare the surrounding enamel for bonded fillings. The need for anesthesia is greatly reduced or eliminated over the traditional methods. Laser energy dramatically reduces the bacteria found in dental decay, and has been demonstrated to enhance the tooth's ability to "heal" in situations where "deep cavities" had existed. (We still can't use lasers to remove old metal fillings, however).
Periodontal, or gum related care. How many times have I seen people put off traditional peiodontal surgergy because the procedure and healings times are painful and long? Lasers can be used to treat moderate-severe periodontal disease without a the need to do traditional surgery (ie. no scalpel or stitches are used). Studies show that not only does the laser energry selectively destroy the diseased gum tissue, but also effectively sterilizes the area to allow for true healing to occur. Healing time and post operative discomfort can be significantly reduced over traditional surgical methods.
Dental lasers have been shown to be safe and effective for treating both children and adults.
